James William Tompkins
Lt. Colonel Retired, USAFR | Senior Pilot
James Tompkins is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, and attended USAF Pilot Training at Moody AFB. He brings over 40 years of aviation experience to Iron Eagle Aviation. James served our country for over 20 years and performed duties as Aircraft Commander, Instructor & Flight Examiner Pilot, and Squadron Assistant Standardization Officer. During his time in the Air Force, he achieved many military awards including: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, 1977 Military Airlift Command Flying Safety Award for an in-flight emergency in Australia, and the Military Training Award from USAF pilot training at Moody AFB. This has only been a touch of James’ aviation career. In 1980, he began a career at Delta Airlines and flew the L1011, B727, B737, B757, B767, and B777 aircraft and retired in 2005. In the General Aviation world, James has held senior positions as both Chief Pilot & Director of Flight Operations in both scheduled and non-scheduled charter operations. He has approximately 17,000 hours and brings priceless knowledge to all at Iron Eagle Aviation.
